OUR AREA
Explore Pairc - the hidden jewel of Lewis.
Pairc is a traditional crofting community where Gaelic is still spoken daily with a compelling history of land rights struggles. Whilst it is a busy place with much to see and do, it is also known for its majestic wildlife and views which make it a great option for extended stays which make use of ample walking and cycling routes. Ravenspoint is the perfect base from which to discover more about the life and culture of islanders past and present. Our community hub is also an ideal place to consider the future of vibrant rural communities now that the estate is in community ownership.
Ravenspoint Café and Museum
Our volunteer-run, self service café (Mon-Sat) remains open for the winter with a range of wonderful biscuits alongside a high quality bean-to-cup coffee machine and other drinks in a welcoming setting. The café space is open from 11:00-16:00. We will also have an enhanced offer each Wednesday through the Winter so come and join us! We have a team of museum volunteers (in-season) to welcome you too, so please do take the time to ask questions and learn about our wonderful community during your visit.
Finding Us
We are located on the B8060 which runs right past our building in Kershader. From Stornoway, head south towards Harris and take the left turn in Balallan on to the B8060. If travelling from Harris, the opposite holds true - head north to Stornoway and turn right in Balallan.
If you are walking or cycling The Hebridean Way there are good public transport links to Pairc if you'd like to venture off the main route and enjoy the facilities at Ravenspoint.
A bus (W9) runs daily from Monday to Saturday, to Ravenspoint (and the rest of Pairc) passing through Balallan (South Lochs Turn) at 14.40 and 18.25. The earlier bus connects with the Harris bus service (W10) from Stornoway to Tarbert. The later bus is a direct journey from Stornoway and leaves the Bus Station at 18.00. These buses can take bikes and it's only a 5 minute journey to Ravenspoint from South Lochs Turn in Balallan.
